Les trajectoires de parents entendants d'enfants sourds en France sont au cœur de la réflexion proposée ici. Cette situation, inédite par sa configuration sociolinguistique, nous amène à questionner dans cet article, au delà du choix linguistique des familles, les relations, la place, et surtout l'absence des parents entendants au sein des discours portant sur les notions de communauté, d'identité et de culture Sourde ; communauté dans laquelle leur enfant serait paradoxalement parfois considéré en tant que membre désigné par « essence ». Les témoignages et analyses que nous présentons sont issus de notre recherche doctorale et proposent de donner un éclairage nouveau sur ces notions largement convoquées dans la littérature scientifique actuelle et dans les discours militants.
