Abstract

-- ABSTRACT: With important attrition rates observed within the first year of teaching and the ever-growing complexity teaching positions, the professional integration of new teachers is a national and international source of concern. In the United-States (US), the special education sector has been identified as particularly concerning. Despite American studies made in the US suggesting a difficult induction experience for these teachers, the professional integration of teachers in special education remains an understudied field in the Quebec province. In light of these observations, the general objective of this research is to describe the professional integration experience from the point of view of new special education teachers. A qualitative/interpretative methodology was adopted to analyze the lived experience of nine teachers with five to ten years of high school experience. Their representation and their induction experience were collected through semi-structured interviews and the data were analyzed using a thematic analysis. This research identifies multiple factors that influence professional integration, such as gaps in initial teacher education, the complexity of teaching duties (student diversity, duties with multiple teaching matter and for multiple school levels), job insecurity, a difficult integration in work environments, a gradual knowledge familiarization and the desire to remain in the profession because of "love for the students". This research confirms that professional integration is a trying experience for many new special education teachers in the Quebec province. Even if teachers quickly integrate work environments, develop fruitful collaborations with other teachers in the sector and acquire more knowledge and confidence in their capacity, the first years of teaching are largely characterized by demanding work conditions, an excessive workload, taxing emotional experiences and a considerable lack in skill, time, material, and support measures. -- Mot(s) clé(s) en anglais : teacher induction, teaching, special education, high school, Quebec.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
