Abstract
Nearly 3.8 million Canadians live with asthma and ∼8% of these patients have severe disease, suffering from frequent exacerbations and leading to increased healthcare costs [1, 2]. In Canada, adult patients with severe eosinophilic asthma who are inadequately controlled on standard therapy may be eligible for treatment with a biologic [3]. Biologic treatments target inflammatory pathways involved in asthma pathogenesis, predominantly endotypes with type 2 inflammation [3, 4]. Within 1 year, 15% of Canadian patients with severe asthma discontinue benralizumab. The reasons for discontinuation are not yet characterised.
