Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Vancouver&s;s Nitobe memorial garden seems to most visitors a quiet respite from the troublesome cares of daily life. Its beautiful greenery and shapes speak deeply to their own need for repose. The same garden has spoken very differently to the author of this chapter over several decades as he analyzed how the garden designer achieved his aims. The Nitobe memorial garden at the university of British Columbia was created during a fifteen-month period in 1959 and 1960 by the distinguished Japanese landscape architect Mori Kannosuke. The garden stands in a wooded comer of the campus, near the edge of a high cliff which reaches westward above the waters of the Pacific. Traditional gardens and important buildings were carefully located with respect to ancient rules that designated auspicious or ominous directions and recognized the supposedly powerful magic of numbers, directions, and local topography. The master builder would have to take into account what the peoples would call an invisible landscape.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
