Abstract
At the present stage of socio-cultural development under the influence of globalization, the English language is increasingly influencing other languages of the world. In a multicultural environment, the question of the need to preserve the cultural and linguistic heritage of some peoples arises. The author examines the linguistics situation in the Canadian province of Quebec as an example of a multilingual and multicultural environment. In Quebec two languages are officially recognized as equivalent - English and French. In practice, English is increasingly influencing the Quebec variety of French, both lexically and grammatically. The author analyzes the attempts made by the government of Quebec to preserve the purity of the French language.
