Abstract
En este artículo, compuesto de extractos de Writing Diaspora (1993), la teórica postcolonial Rey Chow ofrece una crítica arrolladora de los intereses que persigue la investigación académica cuando crea las figuras del subalterno y específicamente la del «nativo/a» del mundo no occidental. En línea con la obra de Said sobre el orientalismo, Rey Chow pinta un retrato irónico del académico «maoísta», que busca la salvación en el Oriente (o indígena) exotizado. A la inversa, Chow invita a reconocer el poder que tiene el silencio de la nativa, una negativa a hablar que puede tambalear el orden del discurso, si se escucha.
