Günümüzde taşıtların seyir halinde yani hareket halinde iken tartılması bir ihtiyaç durumuna gelmiştir. Bunu tetikleyen en önemli faktörlerden biri olarak trafiğin oluşması ve bu nedenle zaman kaybının meydana gelmesi söyleyenebilir. Bu olumsuzlukların önüne geçmek için araç tartımında düşük, orta ve yüksek hızlı tartım süreçleri geliştirilmiştir. Her bir tartım süreci kendine has yazılımsal ve donanımsal farklılıklar içermektedir. Tartım için kullanılan sensör, tartımı yapacak olan ana sistem ve tasarım bu farkların ortaya çıkmasını sağlamaktadır. Yüksek hızlı tartımda araç tartımı piezoelektrik sensörler yardımı ile yapılırken, düşük ve orta hızlı tartımlarda araç tartımı yük hücreleri ile yapılır. Tüm bu etkenler göz önüne alındığında her bir tartım sürecinin avantaj ve dezavantajları vardır.
