Abstract
Tunisia is still in a process of democratization, but individual freedoms and democratic duties should have shaped a new idea of citizenship. This article focuses specifically on the exclusion/inclusion of some women from ‘awareness’ campaigns and from identity representation. Specifically, the article explores the identity claims of pious and illiberal Muslim activist women in two koranic associations of the capital city. Findings suggest that the road toward the inclusion of these non-conventional women is still long.
