Abstract
Com as novas reflexoes sobre o tema da saude e a evolucao do espaco ocupado pela psicologia nas instituicoes publicas, viu-se necessario repensar a psicologia, seu metodo, sua teoria e sua pratica, para melhor responder as novas exigencias sociais. O objetivo principal deste trabalho foi apresentar o Servico de Atendimento Psicologico Especializado aos Imigrantes e Refugiados, cujas atividades acontecem no Departamento de Psicologia da Universidade Laval, Quebec, Canada. Esse servico surgiu de uma preocupacao dos dirigentes governamentais de orgaos da saude e dos servicos sociais, dos profissionais que atuavam nas instituicoes publicas e de especialistas em imigracao, no que se referia a acessibilidade e a adequacao dos servicos da saude para a populacao de imigrantes refugiados. As atividades do Servico de Atendimento Psicologico Especializado aos Imigrantes e Refugiados encontram-se em seu decimo ano.
