Abstract
The current business plan proposes the production and commercialization of sweet potato (Oca) Chips with the objective of exporting them to Canada. This idea focuses on offering a product based on an Ecuadorian traditional ancestral product which is a not well-known tuber that provides great nutrients for the organism. This was done through an external environment and Porter’s forces analysis. The existence of great opportunities was determined proposing a positive view of the previously mentioned business. Few factors that ensure the establishment of this product in the country were found, such regulations and requirements that the government of Canada has determines seek that the products arriving in the country fulfill the high quality standards related to ingredients and source of product. Thanks to a customer analysis and through a qualitative and quantitative investigation we were able to determine that consuming a healthy product is what worries a Canadian consumer, this has encouraged them to check the ingredients and nutritional facts tables listed on a product which leads us to assume that they are willing to acquire healthy snacks. The results are favorable due to the existence of willingness to buy the product and acceptance in the targeted market. Finally, the business plan is profitable, as we see a business opportunity and an open door in Sweet potato commercialization to the Canadian market. Through a 5-year projection plan, a rate of return has been verified as well as project cash flow and overall positive business outcome.
