Este artigo visa identificar a atuação do Instituto Mises Brasil e do Instituto Rothbard como mecanismos de conformação da racionalidade neoliberal no campo da educação no Brasil. Tem como hipótese mais geral a noção de que think tanks liberais são mecanismos específicos de propagação da racionalidade neoliberal pelo mundo. Trata-se de um estudo bibliográfico e documental que insere os think tanks em foco nos processos históricos mundiais e nacionais de sua evolução. Toma como filtro de análise das concepções de educação dessas organizações o conceito de governamentalidade neoliberal de Dardot e Laval (2016) e sua extensão efetuada por Brown (2019). As principais conclusões indicam que a atuação dessas organizações e sua concepção de educação são parte de um movimento mais global de reação ideológica à crise financeira de 2008. Na educação, essa concepção envolve a desqualificação do ensino público e obrigatório com argumentos da Escola Austríaca e da ideologia do “marxismo cultural”, propondo uma educação centrada nas famílias e implantada mediante estratégias de privatização extrema.
