Abstract
This activity starts with the difference between sex and gender and then demonstrates social constraints of ascribed gender roles through positive and negative sanctions. The exercise introduces the notion of a gender continuum and alternatives to our society’s dual gender role system. This provides an opportunity for the instructor to review examples of cross cultural approaches to multiple gender roles.
