Abstract
El libro tiene por objeto de estudio las relaciones entre las Fuerzas Armadas y los procesos de configuración histórica de las fronteras y territorios de los Estados nacionales en América del Sur en las perspectivas y experiencias de actores sociales de la Argentina y el Brasil en el siglo XX. A tal efecto comprende los desafíos que supuso para el Brasil la ocupación y la defensa de su soberanía en un país que limita con todos los otros en la región, excepto con Chile; las conflictivas relaciones diplomáticas y militares entre Argentina, Brasil y Chile; las implicancias de la participación militar del Brasil en la Segunda Guerra Mundial; la proyección antártica de la Argentina y el papel que tuvieron las Fuerzas Armadas en ella; los proyectos de modernización de las Fuerzas Armadas argentinas y brasileñas y las concepciones geopolíticas, de la defensa nacional y de la seguridad internacional predominantes en ambos países en el siglo XX.
