Les organisations sont complexes, fortement technologisées, et évoluent dans un environnement de plus en plus turbulent, ce qui tend à les rendre vulnérables. Dans un tel contexte, des auteurs ont notamment abordé la question des risques communicationnels et informationnels encourus par les organisations (Moinet, 2014; Sauvajol-Rialland, 2014; Bouzon, 2001; Bonneville et Grosjean, 2007). Ces risques renvoient à une ambigüité, équivocité générées par l’usage de données numérique, à la perte de contrôle de l’information dans les organisations (surcharge informationnelle) ou aux risques de désorganisation des collectifs (problèmes de coordination des actions, de collaborations, etc.). Par exemple, dans le contexte du travail en réseau, les acteurs font reposer la coordination de leurs actions sur de nouveaux modes de communication ayant un recours massif aux données numériques, à l’utilisation de systèmes d’information, etc. Or, malgré toutes les précautions techniques et tentatives de mieux contrôler l’information qui circule, de permettre une meilleure communication, de nombreux chercheurs décrivent les TIC comme des agents ambigus, capables de modifier très profondément notre rapport à autrui et au support, à l’écriture, à la lecture, à l’espace et au temps (Borzeix et Fraenkel, 2005). En effet, l’introduction de diverses technologies telles que les Workflows, ERP et autres accentuent la plurisémioticité (Lacoste, 2005) et l’imbrication des formes langagières et des supports : mélange de langage oral, d’écrits, d’images, de chiffres, de codes, de tableaux, etc. Les jargons de métiers, les langages d’experts ou de spécialistes se côtoient, se chevauchent, s’interpénètrent et peuvent parfois générer de la confusion, voire des erreurs de manipulations, autrement dit rendre vulnérable ces nouvelles formes d’organisation et les confronter à un nouveau type de risques : les risques communicationnels.
