Abstract
Sur la base des vestiges épigraphiques, une approche sociale et économique de la ville romano-nabatéenne de Zoora est proposée. Tout d’abord, son rôle d’enclave militaire dans une zone d’importance vitale en raison de la proximité de la frontière et de la confluence des routes commerciales se démarque. Le régiment installé dans la ville-forteresse met en avant le caractère métis de sa population, dans laquelle se mêlent des personnes d’origines différentes: arabes et non arabes. Les sources présentent également une société vivante, qui connaît une forte croissance économique, basée sur l’agriculture et les mines, fondements de son commerce. Tout cela se traduit par une oligarchie arabe hellénisée qui participe au gouvernement de la province.
