Abstract
Ce texte est tiré d’une conférence présentée sous ce même titre le 19 juillet 2012 lors du 36e Festival de Jazz ‘Sim Copans’ de Souillac célébrant les 100 ans de la naissance de Sim, père de l’auteur, qui avait par ailleurs contribué à la fondation de l’AFEA. Le choix des études d’ethnologie et de sociologie africaines de l’auteur tient pour partie à l’atmosphère musicale afro-américaine (et donc africaine) familiale. Celui-ci est parfois conduit au cours du texte à expliciter ses points de vue sur les cultures africaines anciennes, dites traditionnelles, et les cultures modernes qu’il fréquente professionnellement depuis un demi-siècle.
