Abstract
Dans sa pièce documentaire, François Grisé s’interroge sur les raisons qui poussent un grand nombre de personnes âgées au Québec à choisir les résidences privées pour personnes autonomes (RPA) lorsque leurs forces commencent à décliner. Présentées le plus souvent dans la publicité comme des lieux de villégiature, ces résidences, qui semblent surtout profiter aux promoteurs, sont d’abord des espaces d’aliénation dans lesquels les résidentes et résidents font l’expérience de la solitude et de la dépossession. Le rapport complexe que plusieurs entretiennent avec l’idée d’être devenus âgés et de se voir imposer ce nouveau rôle expliquerait leurs difficultés d’adaptation à leur nouvelle demeure. En d’autres mots, ce n’est pas tant le lieu qui abrite la vieillesse qui semble poser problème que l’idée même d’habiter la vieillesse, c’est-à-dire d’accepter sa venue.
