La Civilisation traditionnelle de l’« habitant » aux 17 e et 18 e siècles , l’oeuvre imposante de Robert-Lionel Séguin, a été revisitée sous un angle particulier, soit son titre même. Les concepts ethnologiques, sociologiques, historiques et géographiques qu’il sous-tend ont suscité une réflexion sur la notion de « civilisation traditionnelle », sur celle d’« habitant » et sur ce temps déterminant de l’histoire qu’a été la période des xvii e et xviii e siècles. Cette démarche permet de situer dans une perspective critique le sens et la profondeur des mots utilisés par Robert-Lionel Séguin pour présenter son oeuvre.
