Abstract
Ce texte s’intéresse aux différents aspects de la vocalisation des statuts dans les villes de Provence à la fin du Moyen Âge, à travers la pratique des criées publiques, dans le cadre général d’une situation d’oralité mixte ou de continuum oral-écrit. Après avoir situé la criée parmi les différents canaux (ascendants ou descendants) de la communication orale de la production statutaire, il aborde le cadre juridique de la criée et le statut du crieur, tout particulièrement le lien entre le droit de criée et le dominium seigneurial, sans oublier les questions relatives aux lieux, aux temps et aux modalités de la mise en écriture des criées. Il propose enfin une lecture comparée de quelques-uns des manuscrits passablement hétérogènes qu’on peut, à plus ou moins bon escient, qualifier de « livres de criées », pour tenter d’établir le lien entre ces livres et d’authentiques recueils de statuts.
