Moluscos bivalves sao capazes de absorver poluentes do ambiente devido ao seu habito sessil filtrador; podendo levar a disturbios teciduais e celulares em suas brânquias. Este projeto busca analisar moluscos da especie Mytella falcata , como bioindicadores de condicoes ambientais atualizadas do estuario de Santos. Para realizacao do presente estudo foi realizada uma coleta unica de 10 bivalves para cada um dos tres pontos, que apresentam diferentes niveis de poluicao. O ponto A esta localizado no Rio Branco e nao apresenta impacto de industrias. O ponto B esta localizado na Ilha Barnabe, em frente ao porto de Santos, e esta sob a influencia de industria e do trafego de embarcacoes. O ponto C esta localizado proximo a Companhia Siderurgica Paulista (COSIPA). Os animais coletados tiveram fragmentos das brânquia dissecados, fixados em formol tamponado 10% e processados segundo rotina histologica para inclusao em parafina. Os cortes dos tecidos foram corados com hematoxilina e eosina e montados em balsamo do Canada para identificacao das alteracoes morfologicas em microscopio com aumento de ate 400x . A analise das amostras evidenciaram a presenca de tumores nos bivalves do ponto B, localizado proximo a Ilha Barnabe onde operam caldeiras industriais. Tais alteracoes morfologicas nao foram observadas em animais coletados nos outros pontos amostrais, apontando a possibilidade de maiores danos aos organismos ligados a poluicao neste unico ponto.
