Cet article présente des conclusions issues d’une recherche portant sur le thème « Mémoire filiale et héritage psychique » menée auprès d’un groupe de jeunes âgés entre 18 et 25 ans. L’étude s’appuie sur une démarche qualitative inspirée de la sociologie clinique et de l’approche « roman familial et trajectoire sociale ». L’interprétation des différents récits recueillis vient éclairer certains mécanismes engagés dans la reproduction des modèles parentaux et dans la transmission filiale, de façon à mettre en évidence le rôle qu’occupent la mémoire et le rapport d’identification dans la répétition de la souffrance. La recherche a également permis de saisir certaines stratégies développées par les jeunes afin de conjuguer avec leur histoire familiale et leur héritage identitaire. Le secret, à travers le jeu de voilement/dévoilement qu’il déploie, s’est présenté comme une de ces stratégies, de même que comme une forme sociale permettant de concilier certaines ambivalences et contradictions intrinsèques à la psyché individuelle.
