Abstract
Questo articolo indaga la controversia riguardo la caccia alle foche in Canada e le campagne mediatiche “anti-caccia” che si sono susseguite dagli anni Sessanta. La ricerca mette in discussione il quadro di riferimento della storia ambientale, ricollegando la nozione di subalterno al rinnovamento della critica postcoloniale. Alcuni aspetti della controversia sono discussi in quanto testimoniano la mobilitazione socio-politica degli Inuit e l’emergere di un contro-discorso subalterno. Questa contro-narrazione contribuisce a cogliere le implicazioni implicite delle sfide socio-ecologiche, la diffusione della violenza epistemica, il fondamento di una visione del mondo eurocentrica, la cui natura pregiudiziale si basa su preoccupazioni esogene che tendono ad emarginare e alienare ulteriormente comunità geograficamente isolate e simbolicamente subordinate.
