Abstract
Os Desastres de Rompimentos de Barragens de Rejeitos de Mineração (DRBRM’s) têm ocorrido com cada vez mais frequência. Este artigo objetiva traçar alguns paralelos entre três dos maiores DRBRM’s do mundo. Estes, ocorridos no Brasil e no Canadá, configuram-se como processos derivados de um modus operandi da mineração, que tem seu pico no rompimento, mas não se limita a esse evento. Argumenta-se que a promessa de desenvolvimento local, disseminada pela mineração nos territórios em que são instalados os complexos minerários, é questionável e favorece a produção desses DRBRM’s. Nesse contexto, as escolas são alvo da mineração, mas também espaços possíveis de informação e formação crítica cidadã em que as controvérsias, impactos e riscos da atividade minerária possam ser evidenciados e discutidos.
