Abstract
J. M. Barrie’nin Peter Pan (1904) eseri, Peter Pan adlı uçan bir çocuğun Wendy ve kardeşlerini ikna ederek onları Varolmayan Ülke’ye götürmesini anlatır. Peter annesi tarafından terk edilen bir çocuktur. Kimsesiz çocukları Varolmayan Ülke’ye toplayıp Kayıp Çocuklar adındaki grubuyla, düşmanı olan Kaptan Hook ve diğer çocuklarla savaşır. Bu hikâyede Peter’in küçük bir çocuk ve sevimli oluşunun yanı sıra karanlık bir yanı olduğu görülür. Küçük bir kız olan Wendy’i kendisi ve Kayıp Çocuklar’ına anne yapma isteği, Wendy’nin de bir anne gibi davranması çocuklardaki bazı psikolojik dengesizlik belirtileridir. Çocuk psikolojisi bağlamında anne ve çocuğun ilişkisi birçok yazar ve psikanalist tarafından ele alınmıştır. Brom, Barrie’nin Peter Pan’ı yerine “kendi dünyasını” ve “peri masallarının ardındaki karanlık hikâyeleri” anlatmayı seçerek, gotik bir atmosfer yaratır. Peter Pan hikâyesinde görülen anne kompleksini kendi üslubuyla yorumlayıp karakterlerine yansıtmıştır.
