La VI Cumbre de las Americas, celebrada entre los pasados dias 10 y 15 de abril, en Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), concluia con un estruendoso fracaso. El desacuerdo profundo entre las posiciones sostenidas por las naciones mas al norte del continente - Estados Unidos y canada - y sus vecinos del sur, hacia imposible la firma conjunta de una declaracion final. El veto norteamericano a la presencia de Cuba, el espinoso asunto de las Islas Malvinas y la posible legalizacion de las drogas - impulsada fundamentalmente por los estados centroamericanos -, constituyeron los principales obstaculos, y dejaron en evidencia la sima que actualmente separa a ambos continentes
