Résumé : Notre étude a pour objectif de lever un malentendu concernant l’appropriation herméneutique de la philosophie platonicienne par H.-G. Gadamer. On suggère couramment que la lecture que propose Gadamer du corpus platonicien, ou bien évacue son caractère métaphysique, en y privilégiant la mobilité du dialogue sur les thèses qui s’y développent, ou bien assimile l’aspect métaphysique du platonisme à l’oubli du langage que condamne la dernière partie de Vérité et Méthode . En réponse à ces deux grilles d’interprétation, nous proposons d’examiner les vues de Gadamer sur la métaphysique platonicienne du Beau, afin de mettre en lumière le lien positif qu’entretient l’herméneutique avec un certain aspect de la métaphysique de Platon et a fortiori avec la tradition métaphysique en général.
