Abstract
Le tribunal de la Bailía de Valence est une source importante d’archives pour appréhender le phénomène de la captivité et de l’esclavage à Valence, en Espagne et, en général, dans toute la Méditerranée du xve au xviie siècle. Dans cet article, nous nous proposons, à travers des exemples, de voir les différentes possibilités d’exploitation de cette source pour mieux connaître ce « commerce des hommes » et son évolution. Nous nous intéresserons donc aux différents acteurs, aux caractéristiques, aux circonstances, mais surtout aux victimes de la captivité et de l’esclavage.
