Abstract
Résumé À l’issue des violences urbaines de l’automne 2005, le débat entre chercheurs a principalement opposé les défenseurs de la thèse d’une révolte sociale à ceux qui mettaient en évidence l’exclusion des jeunes en raison de leur appartenance culturelle autre (“culturelle” renvoyant à l’ethnicité, à la race et à la religion). À partir d’un regard ancré dans la ville américaine et d’une analyse ayant pour objet les changements politiques induits par deux révoltes à Los Angeles (1965 et 1992), la réflexion met ici en évidence la faible représentativité des quartiers populaires dans la vie démocratique française. Aussi, la conclusion plaide en faveur d’un meilleur ajustement entre la répartition spatiale de la société française et le découpage des circonscriptions électorales.
