O Cine Theatro Orpheu localizava-se na Avenida Benjamin Constant, n.° 1.891 em Porto Alegre.Foi inaugurado em 06 de outubro de 1923.O prédio que o abrigava foi projetado por Eduardo Pufal e construído por seu irmão, o engenheiro-construtor João Luiz Pufal , a pedido de Miguel e Vitor Alexandre Mendelski, então proprietários da empresa Mendelski & Irmão.Apresentava funções noturnas, com músicos e artista variados, intercaladas com sessões de cinema, programas duplos e reprises.Em 1963, após uma reforma e remodelagem da fachada , passou a funcionar com o nome de Astor.Segundo o pesquisador Cristiano Zanella, o Cinema quando começou a operar em 1923, possuía 1395 assentos e quando do fechamento, em 1994, 707 lugares.Conforme mesma fonte, após ser reformado em 1963, passou a contar com som estereofônico, novo projetor e tela para filmes de 70 mm e poltronas do tipo Pullman (reclináveis).Porto Alegre foi uma das primeiras cidades brasileiras a ter uma sessão de cinema e chegou a contar com 43 salas de cinema de rua.Durante anos o Cine Astor foi considerado um dos maiores cine-teatros da cidade, servindo por décadas como atração e divertimento aos moradores dos Bairros Floresta e São Geraldo, até o encerramento de suas atividades.A partir da década de 60, o cinema de rua começa a entrar em decadência, e os cinemas então vão instalar-se nos interiores de shopping centers.Assim, os antigos cinemas de rua foram sendo abandonados e seus prédios esquecidos foram degradando-se aos poucos,
