En France, à l’école primaire, l’étude de la biodiversité est rattachée à l’enseignement des disciplines scientifiques et à l’éducation au développement durable. Une analyse des programmes pour l’école primaire montre que les apprentissages attendus dans ce domaine sont essentiellement cognitifs et comportementaux. La dimension affective, dans les recommandations ministérielles et les textes de référence est minimisée sous couvert d’objectivité. Toutefois, de nombreuses recherches font apparaître l’importance de cette dimension dans les apprentissages, en interaction avec la dimension cognitive. Cet article s’inscrit dans une recherche sur ces deux dimensions des apprentissages en éducation à la biodiversité à l’école primaire. Elle s’appuie sur l’étude d’arthropodes, et plus particulièrement d’insectes. Le cadre conceptuel est construit sur l’analyse des savoirs scientifiques et des savoirs de sens commun ainsi que sur l’identification des émotions à l’aide d’un modèle de la maturité affective. La méthodologie est fondée sur une analyse multivariée des réponses à un questionnaire. Le protocole expérimental a été réalisé auprès d’un échantillon de 285 élèves de 8 à 12 ans, répartis en trois groupes selon le degré d’implication de l’étude d’arthropodes dans l’enseignement suivi. Il existe des différences significatives pour chaque groupe d’élèves concernés et des corrélations ont pu être identifiées entre les deux types de savoirs et la maturité affective. Des profils particuliers d’apprenants reliant savoirs et dimension affective ont pu être mis en évidence.
