Abstract
Il saggio propone una lettura della distribuzione e della decorazione del Palazzo Reale di Torino alla luce delle funzioni ospitate dalla residenza nel XVIII secolo. Attraverso l'uso di fonti quali i resoconti di viaggio, il regesto degli avvenimenti ufficiali della corte e le regole del Cerimoniale sono identificati gli usi assegnati ad ogni ambiente e il rapporto coerente con la decorazione, sia in termini di genere, sia in termini di iconografia simbolica. La reggia emerge quindi come struttura articolata in cui funzioni, distribuzione e decorazioni si integrano sotto la guida e l'operato di committenti, architetti e artisti: una vera e propria macchina utile all'ostensione e all'esercizio del potere. Lo studio, esito di un mémoire presentato all'EHSS di Parigi nel 2000, costituisce, con altre pubblicazioni del medesimo autore riferite al Palazzo Reale, a Venaria Reale e ad altri edifici (2003, 2005, 2010), l'apertura di questo genere di studi in merito alla residenze di corte in Piemonte
