Introduction et sujet Dans les pays d’immigration, comme le Canada, qui promeuvent le multiculturalisme et le bilinguisme, il est important que les educateurs, les intervenants en sante mentale et les decideurs politiques prennent en consideration le developpement normal et problematique du langage et de la litteratie. Surtout chez les jeunes enfants qui developpent leurs habiletes en lecture dans un environnement de langue seconde (L2). Les etudes sur le developpement de la litteratie dans une L2, sur lesquelles se base cette vue d’ensemble, ont ete effectuees dans differents contextes: a) apprendre a parler et a lire dans le langage societal, ce qui diverge tres souvent de la langue parlee a la maison, comme c’est le cas pour les enfants dont l’anglais est la deuxieme langue (EDL); b) la situation propre aux enfants qui suivent les programmes du patrimoine en plus de frequenter l’ecole dans la langue de la societe (anglais ou francais au Canada); ou c) les programmes qui promeuvent la bi-litteratie, comme c’est le cas pour l’immersion en francais ou pour diverses ecoles de jour bilingues. Cet article est un concentre des decouvertes cles et des implications pratiques et politiques tirees de cette recherche. Cette derniere visant a offrir des services aux jeunes enfants L2 qui pourraient avoir des deficiences en lecture.
