Abstract
Un bilan du développement des bibliothèques collégiales du réseau public et privé est brossé à partir de leur création, à la fin des années 1960, jusqu’à aujourd’hui. Progressivement, ces bibliothèques se développent et dépassent le rôle passif de prestation de services et de prêt de livres pour assumer un rôle majeur dans la réussite des étudiants. Une plus grande adéquation entre les services offerts et les besoins pédagogiques des étudiants apparaît avec la formation documentaire. Progressivement, les bibliothèques, transformées en véritable « carrefour de l’information » regroupant l’audiovisuel, les centres d’aide et le soutien à l’usage du numérique, assument un rôle dans l’acquisition d’habiletés ou de compétences informationnelles.
