Abstract
Desde su sedentarizacion forzada a mediados del siglo pasado, el pueblo Innu de Sheshatshiu, Labrador, Canada, utiliza distintos tipos de vivienda que responden a diferentes estrategias de uso de su territorio. Este trabajo identifica y describe los distintos tipos de unidades habitacionales: casas de estilo Euro-canadiense en el poblado de Sheshatshiu y cabanas, semi-cabanas y carpas en las rutas de Labrador o en los puestos de caza remotos. Mientras las casas del poblado de Sheshatshiu responden a una imposicion externa, el uso de cabanas, semi-cabanas y carpas se ajusta a las necesidades de movilidad de un pueblo cazador y se construyen o se arman de acuerdo usos distintivos del espacio: la necesidad de escapar de la realidad del poblado, la posibilidad de acceder a animales de caza y la reafirmacion simbolica de la identidad Innu.
