Les peintures murales dans des habitations urbaines constituent un corpus de la peinture profane qui, en raison d'une situation de conservation tres peu claire n'a jusqu'aujourd'hui pas ete vraiment pris en consideration et demeure par consequent encore peu etudie. A partir de trois cas d'etudes toscans (la Casa Datini a Prato, le Canto dei Pecori dans la banlieue florentine et le Palazzo Galganetti a Colle di Val d'Elsa) le present travail veut montrer dans quelle mesure les fresques d'habitations urbaines avec leurs particularites visuelles sont attachees au cadre sociopolitique des villes toscanes du XVIe siecle. Ces fresques sont dues a des mecanismes d'adaptation, par lesquelles le vocabulaire visuel courtois mais aussi sacral, en tant que moyen de distinction elitaire, est visuellement adapte aux exigences fonctionnelles et representatives des demeures privees des communes toscanes. Les modeles iconographiques peuvent etre transformes ou accompagnes par des strategies de visualisation communales des programmes publiques qui servent a etablir et a transmettre les systemes communs de valeurs civiques et collectives. Les solutions picturales ambigues et peu effectives, qui resultent de ces adaptations, se tiennent au niveau social dans un champ de tensions entre l'espace prive et l'espace publique et entre la mise en avant des aspirations elitaires et l'appartenance du commanditaire a la collectivite. Cette these tente alors de reveler de nouveaux aspects d'invention picturale dans la culture visuelle toscane, qui a ete longtemps analysee quasi exclusivement en se fondant sur l'art sacrale
