Abstract
La plupart des approches « institutionnelles » disponibles ne fournissent pas de bonne réponse à la question : pourquoi l’économie est-elle nécessairement instituée ? Seules les approches institutionnalistes de T. Veblen et de J. R. Commons répondent adéquatement à cette question. L’approche de Commons retient ici notre attention. Il est rappelé que pour Commons le conflit économique requiert un ordre institutionnel régulant les transactions économiques. La théorie commonsienne de l’action économique est étudiée plus en détail. Le concept de futurité en est la clé analytique. Il permet de comprendre comment l’action instituée est une nécessité de l’activité économique.
