Le but de ce travail est d'identifier et d'evaluer les consequences de la phytophagie par un grand mammifere pour comprendre comment le phytophage modifie la dynamique forestiere. En utilisant la situation quasi-experimentale de l'introduction du cerf a queue noire sur l'archipel d'Haida Gwaii (Canada), l'approche dendrochronologique associee a des analyses chimiques a mis en evidence (1) le blocage de la regeneration chez les arbustes, (2) le ralentissement de la regeneration module par les defenses physiques chez l'epicea et le tsuga et (3) une selection des individus basee sur l'expression de defenses chimiques chez le thuya. L'approche Le historique montre que si le cerf a rapidement colonise tout l'archipel, des heterogeneites spatiales et temporelles apparaissent, en liaison avec l'isolement, la pression humaine, l'habitat et le climat. Les changements disproportionnes induits par le phytophage entre les differentes especes entrainent une modification de la dynamique forestiere.
