Abstract
The process of socialization to a role involves learning the behaviors that are associated with it. This study examines the process of sociali zation to familial roles among Canadian adolescents through their perceptions of several family demographic characteristics. Also investigated are the influence of their family of origin, dating status, and sources of family information on these perceptions. Results show that their perceptions of family behaviour more nearly reflect condi tions in the United States than in Canada. The effect of mass media as a socializing agent is discussed.
