Arvilla Almira Powers Smith Diary and Reminiscences, 1808-1845
Bibliographic record
Abstract
Personal reminiscences and diary of Arvilla Almira Powers Smith, cousin of the abolitionist John Brown and sculptor Hiram Powers. The memoirs cover the years 1808 to 1834 and record Arvilla's childhood and religious upbringing, her marriage to and early wedded life with George Nelson Smith, and their move to the Territory of Michigan. This section concludes with the loss of a son soon after childbirth in 1834. The diary covers the years 1834-1845 and provides an initimate portrait of a pioneer woman's life in the years before and after Michigan achieved statehood. In addition to recording daily activities and significant events, Arvilla closely documents her spiritual life and faith as well as the health and well-being of her family and friends, with numerous references to nineteenth-century medical practices. Provides counterpoint to the records of her husband, George Nelson Smith, in documenting their moves and his work as a missionary to the Ojibwe and Ottawa tribes in Kalamazoo and Leelanau counties.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
