This book presents a collection that consists of selected papers from the International Symposium on Ecological Environment and Technology of Concrete (EETC-2005), which was held on the 6th to 8th of June, 2005, at Urumchi, XinJiang, China. The main aim of this symposium was to discuss compatibility between the ecological environment and technology of concrete, and covering a wide range of topics and scopes, including: the impact of concrete upon the ecological environment, the durability of concrete, raw materials, recycled aggregate concrete, new applications of concrete, property characterization, damaging and worsening degradation of concrete, and the behavior of concrete structures. Totally, in all, 103 papers from Japan, the Netherlands, Italy, Canada, the Taiwan area, the Hong Kong area and the mainland of China were included and presented. All contributions were subject to an excessive peer review process. The volume therefore represents an essential source of innovative ideas for those working in this apparently mundane, but nevertheless pivotal, branch of materials science.
