Abstract
By way of research of character and a role of images-symbols in Mari dramatic art last quarter of XX century K.Korshunov's plays: «Traveller» and «The Duty of heart» are the greatest represent art achievements, both in creativity of this author, and in all Mari literature of this period. The image-symbol in products of the writer's works play an important role in forming subject lines, directs action. It becomes composite means, reception of an individualization of heroes. Symbolical images of the play allow the writer to open more deeply feelings, ideas of heroes, their characters. From the analysis of concrete everyday occurrences the playwright goes to research of essence of processes, to revealing social collisions of time. Thus each of his heroes passes almost very difficult life. Symbolization, finally, becomes means of expression of ideas and feelings of the author.
