La notion d’hégémonie regroupe l’analyse des différences de pouvoir que possède un groupe (État, société, régime, pays, confédération) sur un autre en s’appuyant sur une prédominance ou un contrôle dans les champs politique, économique, militaire, social, culturel ou géopolitique. La conception de l’hégémonie par Gramsci, qui s’appuie non pas seulement sur les pouvoirs militaires ou physiques, mais également sur des idées et des valeurs, sera largement reprise par les anthropologues.
