Abstract
Entre 1947 et 1975, 5 000 enfants métis, nés en Indochine (eurasiens et autres) et délaissés par leurs pères, ont été envoyés en France par la Fédération française des Œuvres de l’enfance française d’Indochine. L’objectif de cette association et des autorités françaises était leur assimilation dans la société métropolitaine. Cette contribution interroge la manière dont ces enfants sont passés de leur langue maternelle (vietnamien, lao, khmer…) à la langue de leurs pères ; et aussi comment ils ont appréhendé le français, tout à la fois langue coloniale et langue d’intégration. Confrontés aux archives disponibles, les témoignages des personnes concernées – aujourd’hui âgées de 55 à 90 ans –, documentent le déracinement et l’acculturation linguistique postcoloniale qui leur ont été imposés.
