Abstract
Dans cet entretien accordé in situ à Isabelle St-Amand, la femme de théâtre atikamekw Véronique Hébert revient sur la première d’un spectacle qu’elle a créé et présenté à Mashteuiatsh dans le cadre de la commémoration du pensionnat de Pointe-Bleue tenue en 2017 lors du Grand rassemblement annuel des Premières Nations. L’échange relate ses réflexions sur les formes expressives et l’évènement communautaire qu’Hébert a voulu faire advenir dans une volonté de contrer les effets dévastateurs de cette institution coloniale. À partir de sa perspective singulière, soit celle de la génération des enfants des survivant.e.s de ces écoles, Hébert réfléchit au rôle du théâtre dans la guérison collective. La distribution entièrement féminine, composée de femmes de différentes nations et générations, dont Marly Fontaine, Marie-Andrée Gill, Catherine Dacjzman et Pol Pelletier, a mis en présence, sur les lieux même de l’ancien pensionnat, les récits singuliers de chacune de ces femmes rassemblées de même qu’un public qui a été directement interpellé. Hébert conçoit le spectacle comme une cérémonie dans laquelle les spectateurs sont conviés à assister à un moment de vérité. Face au souvenir du génocide culturel visant la cellule familiale, la catharsis de la pièce renforce et refait le groupe à travers l’évènement communautaire.
