Abstract
Cet article entend démontrer le rôle central qu’ont joué les femmes francophones dans la construction et la transmission des savoirs psychiatriques au Québec entre 1912 et 1963. Pour ce faire, il suit le parcours d’une religieuse, sœur Augustine, directrice du nursing à l’Hôpital Saint-Jean-de-Dieu, le plus grand asile du Québec, et d’une garde-malade laïque, Charlotte Tassé, directrice propriétaire de l’Institut Albert-Prévost, une institution de soin et de formation psychiatriques située au nord de l’île de Montréal. Contre une historiographie psychiatrique, mais aussi féministe qui a renvoyé les infirmières et les hospitalières au rang de simples subalternes, cet article milite pour la reconnaissance et la réintégration de leurs apports dans l’histoire des savoirs au Québec.
