Abstract
Pour les Chacobos (Panos de l’Amazonie bolivienne), être femme n’est pas un état purement « naturel » ou « physiologique » ni défini une fois pour toutes. Les femmes y accèdent seulement à travers des étapes progressives de construction et de modelage social de leur personne. Cet article examine les représentations et pratiques constituant l’« humanité » et la « personne » pour les Chacobos en général. Dans le cas des femmes en particulier, l’auteure analyse les idées et valeurs attribuées au genre féminin dans la conceptualisation de la gestation et de la procréation, ainsi que dans la représentation mythique de la sexualité, les restrictions rituelles associées à la grossesse et à la couvade, l’initiation féminine, la division sexuelle du travail, l’idéologie des rapports entre sexes, et certains des principes fondamentaux de l’organisation sociale.
