Dans le cadre scolaire, nous nous intéressons aux rituels par lesquels les enseignants et les élèves se mettent en scène. En fait, un nombre impressionnant de rites, plus ou moins élaborés, plus ou moins codés, plus ou moins maîtrisés, rythment et ordonnancent la vie scolaire des élèves et des enseignants. La pédagogie, depuis ses débuts, ne vise-t-elle pas à entretenir et à maintenir un certain ordre scolaire en fixant les comportements des élèves et des enseignants. Un enfant devient élève, en fait, en adoptant les comportements très ritualisés qui le font élève. On reconnaît aussi un enseignant aux rites qui le font enseignant. C’est dire qu’il y a des gestes, des savoir-être, des savoir-faire, une langue, un style vestimentaire, en fait, une composition de soi, qui révèle un individu comme enseignant ou comme élève. Dans cet article nous nous intéressons à ces rituels qui créent des identités.
