Gain Enhancement of Partially Reflective Surface Antennas using a Phase-Correcting Metasurface

Abstract
Gains of the PRS antennas can be improved by adding phase-correcting devices above the PRS. In this paper, a highly efficient transmissive phase-compensated metasurface is proposed and developed to increase the gain of a partially-reflective-surface (PRS) antenna further. Simulated results show a peak gain of about 24.9 dBi and 1-dB gain bandwidth of 5%. A gain increase of about 15 dB is achieved without comprising other performance parameters such as impedance and gain bandwidths.
