Abstract
Même si l’on ne peut dissocier les essais de Léopold Sédar Senghor de sa production poétique et de ses autres écrits, il semble pourtant que les différentes casquettes « civiles » de l’écrivain ont souvent posé un problème méthodologique aux critiques de l’œuvre prise dans sa globalité. C’est que celle-ci procède d’une subjectivité performative brandie par le poète à la fois comme sujet d’énonciation symbolique et comme objet de construction d’un capital social et politique. La rencontre de ces deux déterminants donne un sens particulier au « fait francophone » tel que le perçoit Senghor tout au long d’un XXe siècle, c'est-à-dire à la fois comme une construction historique, humaine et discursive.
