Résumé L’objectif de la présente recherche est de tenter de cerner les premières étapes du développement de la reconnaissance des expressions faciales d’émotion d’autrui en faisant l’analyse des réponses visuelles de nourrissons aux expressions faciales de leur mère lors de séances d’interaction libre face à face. Vingt-cinq nourrissons et leur mère participent à quatre séances d’interaction. Les nourrissons sont âgés de 1 mois lors de la première séance et de 2,5 mois, 6 mois et 9 mois lors des séances suivantes. L’analyse de leurs réponses visuelles révèle que dès l’âge de 1 mois les nourrissons semblent distinguer les expressions faciales de leur mère et préférer les expressions positives aux expressions neutres, mais ils en saisissent sans doute plus tard la signification affective.
